Characteristics
This is the second known PHP virus to be discovered. PHP is a server-side scripting language used to generate dynamic Web page content.
When a script containing the virus is run, it may display the following message:
Neworld.PHP
Welcome To The New World Of PHP Programming
This script virus is coded to look in the path C:\WINDOWS for host files of these extensions: .php, .html, .htm or .htt. If the files are not read-only, they are considered viable to the script virus.
Symptoms

The script also contains these comments which are not displayed:

The Black Cat Virii Group
Method of Infection
This script virus is coded to look in the path C:\WINDOWS for host files of these extensions: .php, .html, .htm or .htt. If the files are not read-only, they are considered viable to the script virus.
Each file is opened and checked for the string "neworld.php" - not finding this string, the script attempts to insert a server-side include at the end of that file which instructs PHP to serve the content of the original viral file at the end of that file.

All Information
Overview -
This is a virus detection. Viruses are programs that self-replicate recursively, meaning that infected systems spread the virus to other systems, which then propagate the virus further. While many viruses contain a destructive payload, it's quite common for viruses to do nothing more than spread from one system to another.
