Characteristics
This VBScript virus consists of a subroutine called "Chernobyl". When run, it copies itself to "c:\Windows\Story.vbs" and "c:\My Documents\Story.vbs". It sets the registry key "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Systray" to "C:\WINDOWS\STORY.VBS" so it runs on system startup. It creates the file "c:\mirc\script.ini" which is a mIRC script which sends the story.vbs file to other users when they enter a channel an infected user is in.
Symptoms
File names mentioned above. Registry entry mentioned above.
Method of Infection
Story.vbs is received when a user enters an IRC channel. Running story.vbs will infect the system.

All Information
Overview -
This is a virus detection. Viruses are programs that self-replicate recursively, meaning that infected systems spread the virus to other systems, which then propagate the virus further. While many viruses contain a destructive payload, it's quite common for viruses to do nothing more than spread from one system to another.
