Characteristics

This is a very small class macro virus for Word97 documents and templates, and it does little more than spread from infected file to host system, and then on to other documents used on the machine. This virus will infect systems which have been updated to SR-1 update and higher.

The virus infection is called when opening infected documents due to a system event hooked named "Document_Open".

If day is equal to the month (e.g. Feburary 2, March 3, etc) and MS Office Assistant is installed, this virus changes the Office Assistant to say

"CheeChoong!!" "Have a great CheeChoong..."

Symptoms

Modified Office Assistant on trigger date as mentioned above when opening infected documents, macro warning when opening infected documents on an non-infected system.

Method of Infection

Opening infected documents and allowing the macro to run will directly infect the global template and any document used thereafter.

All Information

Overview -

This is a virus detection. Viruses are programs that self-replicate recursively, meaning that infected systems spread the virus to other systems, which then propagate the virus further. While many viruses contain a destructive payload, it's quite common for viruses to do nothing more than spread from one system to another.
