Characteristics

This detection is for a library component that may have key logging or password stealing capabilities.  It is a generic detection that is identified by traits or techniques that are common to suspicious methods of intercepting a users keystrokes.  Libraries identified by this detection may also have interaction with the web browser.

Symptoms

Symptoms may very as these libraries are often used by another component.  These detections usually attempt to upload the captured key data or passwords to a remote url.

Unexplained http get requests to unknown or suspicious web sites may be an indication of this type of trojan.

Method of Infection

Trojans do not self-replicate. They are spread manually, often under the premise that the executable is something beneficial. Distribution channels include IRC, peer-to-peer networks, newsgroup postings, email, etc.

Removal

All Users:
Use current engine and DAT files for detection and removal.

Modifications made to the system Registry and/or INI files for the purposes of hooking system startup, will be successfully removed if cleaning with the recommended engine and DAT combination (or higher).
