Overview

This is a trojan detection. Unlike viruses, trojans do not self-replicate. They are spread manually, often under the premise that they are beneficial or wanted. The most common installation methods involve system or security exploitation, and unsuspecting users manually executing unknown programs. Distribution channels include email, malicious or hacked web pages, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), peer-to-peer networks, etc.

Characteristics

This detection covers malformed archive files that attempt to evade detection by anti-virus scan engines.  The 4602 DAT files contained detection for malformed CAB, RAR, and ZIP files.  The 4603 DAT files also added detection for malformed ARJ files.

N/A  This is a generic detection of a malformed container.  The container itself does nothing.  It's the contents of the container that would be responsible for any system malicious, or otherwise, behavior.
