Characteristics

This detection is for a "potentially unwanted application", it is not a virus or trojan.

FPort is a tool from Foundstone that reports all open TCP and UDP ports on a machine. Similar information can be gathered using the 'netstat -an' command, but FPort also maps the ports to running processes with the PID, process name and path. Fport can be used to quickly identify unknown, open ports and their associated applications for troubleshooting or forensic investigations.

More information can be found at the following URL:

As such this tool is used by security experts to enhance their network security. However, it can also be used with malicious intent by hackers to target attacks on remote systems.

The detection of this type of files is not automatically activated. Users who would like to check for the presence of this kind of files on their system should run the command line scanner with the /PROGRAM switch.
