Characteristics

This detection is of application type for "potentially unwanted applications". It is not a virus nor a trojan.

The files mentioned below were found on a system in Japan that had been compromised using other files. Although the files as such may not be malicious by design, their abuse in finding remote vulnerable systems using portscanning files make such files arguable hence the detection with application.

The following package files were encountered:

  • pscan2 , ELF binary file, 21407   bytes
  • ss          , ELF binary file, 453972 bytes
  • sshf       , ELF binary file, 842424 bytes
  • assh      , asci shell file ,    605       bytes
  • auto      , asci shell file ,    206       bytes
  • go         , asci shell file ,     85        bytes

Log files indicated that the compromise was initiated from Italy and/or Romania.

Users who would like to check for the presence of this program on their system should run the command line scanner with the /PROGRAM switch. Please note that VirusScan 7 and higher has an option, which enables users to detect this kind of program automatically.
