Characteristics
This is a virus for Word 97 documents consisting of a module called xix. This is a stealth virus; it will attempt to intercept the macro viewing commands to attempt to hide its presence. It is able to replicate under the SR-1 release of Word 97. This macro virus will infect Word's normal.dot file. It is able to do this by using a temporary file called c:\xix.drv to copy its code. It will turn off the macro warning feature of Word 97. This virus changes the document properties, author to "VOTA NAO A REGIONALIZAÇAO! SIM AO REFORÇO DO MUNICIPALISMO!", subject to "JOAO JARDIM x8?! PORRA! DIA 8 VOTA NAO!", and comments to "A REGIONALIZAÇAO É UM ERRO COLOSSAL!". These changes are not reversed during cleaning because VirusScan has no way of know what they were before they were modified. To change them back, open the document, then choose File, then Properties.
It has a 1% change of displaying the message box
"Dia 8 de Novembro VOTA NAO à regionalizaçao!"
every time it runs. Every time you choose Help/About it displays the message box "Joao Jardim x8?! Porra! Dia 8 Vota NAO!"
On the eighth day of any month it will replace the text "sim" with "nao à regionalizaçao!" in the current document, and delete the Undo, Repeat, and Replace menu items.

Overview -
This is a virus detection. Viruses are programs that self-replicate recursively, meaning that infected systems spread the virus to other systems, which then propagate the virus further. While many viruses contain a destructive payload, it's quite common for viruses to do nothing more than spread from one system to another.
