Characteristics
This is a password stealing trojan that captures information from the local file system. sends this information to the author via email. There are several variants of the trojan. The description is a general guide.

- Norton.exe
- pif.pif
- Sender.exe
- Smasher_7.exe
- Svchost.exe
- Telnet.cmd

The fake error message can be configured by the attacker to display strings of his/her choice.
It creates a registry run key to load itself at Windows start up.
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "Svchost" = "%Windir%/Svchost.exe"
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "Svchost" = "%Windir%/Svchost.exe"
It then sends the following system information to the attacker via email.
- Local Uswername and Password
- Local IP Address
- Operating System
- Registry Startup
- Yahoo Username and password
Symptoms
Existence of files and registry keys mentioned above.
