Characteristics
This threat is detected as VBS/Calma. On opening the infected VBScript, the virus copies the file Cz0_32.dll.vbs to the windows directory. It then creates the file Autoexec.bat in the working directory, which contains instructions to rename *.res files found in the windows SYSTEM directory to *.vbs extension. It will also delete the following files:
- c:\*.log
- c:\*.dll
- c:\*.sam
- c:\*.bkp
c:\Autoexec.nt will be overwritten with the same above instructions. Both of these files are detected as VBS/Calma. The following registry keys will be created:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\ Run "basi32.dll" [windows directory]\Cz0_32.dll.vbs - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main "Start Page" __Proximamente...__
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main "Window Title" !...Ca0zs...!
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\kazaa\Transfer "DlDir0"
[windows directory]\kazaa\
A new folder named \kazaa will be created in the windows directory. In this directory, the file web.html is created. This file is detected as VBS/Calma. Inside this .html file, a VBScript will delete the following folders:
- C:\Progra~1\norton~1
- C:\Progra~1\mcafee
- C:\Progra~1\kasper~1
- C:\Progra~1\trojan~1
- C:\Archiv~1\norton~1
- C:\Progra~1\norton~1
- C:\Archiv~1\mcafee
- C:\Archiv~1\kasper~1
- C:\Archiv~1\trojan~1
It may also create the file \exe.vbs in the windows directory, which contains the infected script. The following messages are then displayed:
Symptoms
The presence of the file Cz0_32.dll.vbs and the above registry changes.
Method of Infection
Executing the infected script.
Removal
Use current engine and DAT files for detection and removal.
Using File Filtering with WebShield SMTP for WindowsNT(not applicable for Solaris):
Within the Configuration console select content filtering.
Select Add.
Add a Description for the content filter rule such as VBSBlock.
Select Filter on Attachment File name.
Filter on .vbs
Select OK.

All Information
Overview -
This is a virus detection. Viruses are programs that self-replicate recursively, meaning that infected systems spread the virus to other systems, which then propagate the virus further. While many viruses contain a destructive payload, it's quite common for viruses to do nothing more than spread from one system to another.
