Characteristics

This is not a virus or trojan. It is a legitimate application which can be used for killing Win32 processes. Malware frequently uses applications such as this in a malicious fashion in order to terminate security-related processes (eg. anti-virus scanners, firewalls etc).

The application accepts arguments in order to terminate specific processes via their window titles and/or classes. It can also be used to terminate all (non-system) processes.

The detection of this type of file is not automatically activated. Users who would like to check for the presence of this kind of files on their system should run the command line scanner with the /PROGRAM switch. Please note that VirusScan 7 has also an option, which enables users to detect this kind of program automatically (see below).
