Characteristics

HuntBar is a toolbar providing search features and added to every new Internet Explorer window.

It changes the home page and search bar settings to point to HuntBar's servers, and automatically opens this search bar when using any other search engine.

When first executed, the following prompt is displayed:

This Adware comes with a Browser Helper Object that monitors websites visited. These addresses are sent to a remote location.

The installed Browser Helper Object can be seen on:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
    Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\ {8952A998-1E7E-4716-B23D-3DBE03910972}

This program also adds a folder called Toolbar in C:\Program Files.

There is a removal option via Add/Remove program in Control Panel.

The detection of this type of files is not automatically activated. Users who would like to check for the presence of this kind of files on their system should run the command line scanner with the /PROGRAM switch.
Please note that VirusScan 7 has also an option, which enables users to detect this kind of program automatically (see below).
