AVERT HOAX Notice!!

McAfee AVERT Labs would like to inform you of a new email HOAX.

This email message is just a HOAX. AVERT has not received any report of a user's tax returns being redirected as described in the email.

We are advising users who receive the email to delete it and DO NOT pass it on as this is how an email HOAX propagates.

Below is the actual text from the message that may be received via email.

Ainda não se sabe se é verdade, mas vale a pena se precaver.

Não envie sua declaração pela Internet (por enquanto).

Um novo vírus, solto na Internet captura sua declaração. 
O criador programou o vírus para interceptar todos os arquivos que possuem 
as extensões geradas pelo programa da Receita Federal. Caso haja 
restituição, o vírus troca a conta corrente informada pela vítima, alterando 
para a conta do seu criador. Após a troca das conta-correntes, o arquivo já 
alterado, segue para o banco de dados da Receita Federal. O emitente da 
declaração recebe o protocolo de recebimento normalmente, pois, a declaração 
não deixa de ser entregue. Há um aumento pequeno no tempo de envio, 
necessário apenas para a troca das conta-correntes, que não é percebido por 
quem aguarda o protocolo de recebimento pela Receita Federal, pois o 
emitente da declaração deduz que é congestionamento, problemas com a linha 
telefônica, etc...todos que nós estamos acostumados quando acessamos a 
Internet. O novo vírus, ainda informa seu criador, as declarações que 
conseguiu capturar, com os valores que o mesmo conseguirá embolsar.

A new virus has been unleashed through the Internet to capture your tax return. The author created this virus to intercept all files using the extensions generated by the Federal Revenue program. If there is a rebate, the virus changes the current account indicated by the victim, changing it to the author's account.  After that the changed file goes to the Federal Revenue Database. The victim receives the usual return- receipt, because the tax return doesn't fail to be delivered. There is a small increase in time of shipping, necessary because of the changed account information, which is not apparent to the person waiting for the tax return, therefore the recipient of the rebate assumes that it is due to a high volume of traffic or problems with the telephone line, etc. ...all problems that we are accustomed to, being on the Internet. The new virus still informs its author about the rebates that he managed to capture, including the values that he'll pocket.
